Henry: Neymar Should Leave Football To Escape Messi’s Shadows

Arsenal legend and former Barcelona striker Thierry Henry has advised Brazilian star Neymar Jr. to leave football if he wants to escape being in the shadow of Lionel Messi. There is the understanding that Neymar left Barcelona partly because he wanted to increase his chances of winning the Ballon d’Or after finishing third and being predicted to finish third even for the next few years.

The Paris St. Germain playmaker wanted a fresh challenge and a different club where he could lead to significant victory and make his mark on the whole stage. Following the performance of Neymar and the PSG against Real Madrid, there have been new speculations as to why he really left his former club as he clearly cannot do it alone with PSG.

“I don't know if Neymar left Barcelona to get out of the shadow of Messi. What is true is that all players are in the shadow of Messi, and if Neymar doesn't want to be, he should change sport,” Henry was quoted to have said.

The Player is set to win accolades with PSG this season. So far he had been involved in about 31 goals for the Ligue 1 side. However, the real challenge is winning the Champions League with the club, which is primarily the reason he was gotten. The player no doubt boosted PSG’s chances but they remain at risk of not making it past the Round of 16 following their 3-1 loss in the first leg.

Already there are strong links that Neymar will return to star for Real Madrid this summer. With Madrid in need of something fresh, Neymar might be who they turn to. How the controversial player will fit in at the Bernabeu with the rest of the team remains a mystery.

Barcelona continues to do well in the absence of Neymar, and they have reinvented their game under manager Ernesto Valverde. Messi remains an outstanding player in the league, leading goals and assists charts.
