Arsene Wenger has hit back at Arsenal legend Thierry Henry for his comments that Alexis Sanchez is causing a rift within the Arsenal setup. The Chilean winger is about to leave Arsenal at the end of the campaign, as he has not agreed a deal with the club. Sanchez was ready to leave Arsenal even as early as last summer when Manchester City where showing a lot of interest in the player. It is rumoured that City were ready to pay around £ 60 million for his services, but Sanchez stayed at the Emirates stadium due to Arsenal not willing to sell the player to a direct rival.
Now, it appears that City will come in with a second interest in the January transfer window. Sanchez has continued representing Arsenal, albeit in a slightly subdued way. Over the last few months, Sanchez has featured more and more in the first team and he played an important contribution in the 3-2 win over Crystal Palace during the weekend. This was an extremely positive result for Arsenal, as it keeps them in the hunt for the top four. However, Henry says that Sanchez is becoming a bad apple in the Arsenal setup as he did not seem to celebrate this important victory, and despite contributing with goals in the game.
Wenger, though, was quite angry with the media focusing on all aspects of Sanchez. “It’s a problem when Alexis plays well and it’s a problem when he doesn’t play well. It’s unbelievable. You turn up, you play football and that’s it. After that you judge whether he played well or not, but some people always want it to be a problem,” said Arsene Wenger ahead of the game with West Brom this weekend. Arsenal need a victory after having seen Liverpool get a win over Leicester City on Saturday.
