Gabonese striker Pierre-EmerickAubameyang failed to find the back of the net as his Barcelona side lost 1-0 at home to Rayo Vallecano in the Spanish La Liga on Sunday. Alvaro Garcia scored the only goal of the match as early as the seventh minute. The early goal turned out to be the winning goal as Barcelona were condemned to a third successive defeat at home in all competitions.
The winner from Garcia took his tally to six goals and three assists in the Spanish league this season. His goal ensured that Rayo Vallecano moved closer to safety as far as La Liga football is concerned. With the away win, Rayo Vallecano have ten more points than Granada who are third from bottom with five games left to play in the division.
Barcelona have now lost three of their last four games in all competitions including the last three at home after the defeat to Rayo Vallecano at the Nou Camp at the weekend. The Catalan giants had gone on a run of 15 games without defeat before it came to and end courtesy the 3-2 defeat at home to 10-man Eintracht Frankfurt in the second leg of their quarterfinal tie.
Pierre-EmerickAubameyang began his Barcelona career well as he was a regular goalscorer, but the goals have dried up in recent games. He was not able to score in each of the two legs against Frankfurt in the Europa League as Barcelona were beaten 4-3 on aggregate. Barcelona had secured a 1-1 draw at the home of Frankfurt in the first leg only for them to suffer defeat to the German club in the second leg. Since the Frankfurt defeat, Barcelona have lost 1-0 to Cadiz and Rayo Vallecano at home, while beating Real Sociedad 1-0 at home. Pierre-EmerickAubameyang has managed just one goal in those four games starting from the home defeat to Frankfurt.Auba played just 71 minutes before he was replaced by Dutch midfielder Frenkie De Jong in the last match against Madrid-based Rayo Vallecano.
After the Rayo Vallecano game, Auba now has nine goals and one assist in 12 La Liga games for Barcelona.
