Spanish giants Barcelona are through to the quarterfinals of this season's Europa League campaign after they saw off Turkish Super League side Galatasaray in their round of 16 tie. Gabonese international Pierre-EmerickAubameyang scored the winning goal to propel Barcelona to a 2-1 comeback win over their Turkish opponents. Barcelona were able to book their place in the last eight of the competition thanks to the 2-1 aggregate win over Galatasaray.
Inaki Pena is a Galatasaray shot stopper on loan from Barcelona and he produced an impressive display to ensure that the first leg clash between his parent club and current club at the Nou Camp ended in a goalless draw thus leaving the second leg in the balance.
Galatasaray took the lead against the Catalans on 28 minutes through skipper Marcao and the advantage lasted for just nine minutes before young Spanish midfielder Pedri scored a very good goal to draw Barcelona level to ensure that the two teams went into the break on level terms.
Barcelona took control of their Europa League round of 16 tie with Galatasaray when Pierre-EmerickAubameyang scored from close range four minutes into the second half off the assist from Dutch midfielder Frenkie De Jong. The goal from the Gabonese striker ensured that Barcelona took the lead for the first time against Galatasaray over two legs.
Pierre-EmerickAubameyang has been in very good form since he left Arsenal to sign for Catalan giants Barcelona earlier this year. He has now scored seven goals for Barcelona since his free transfer signing towards the end of the winter transfer window. Five of the seven goals have come in his last six Spanish La Liga games, while the other two goals have been in the Europa League. He also scored one of the goals to ensure that Barcelona beat Napoli 4-2 away from home for a 5-3 aggregate win in their Europa League play-off tie. Barcelona were able to move into the last 16 of the competition after seeing off Italian Serie A club Napoli in the play-offs.
