The representative of Shkodran Mustafi has indicated that there has been no contact from any side regarding the defender’s services. The Germany international has drawn plenty of criticism from the Arsenal supporters during pre-season and reports have emerged that the club are prepared to sanction his sale before the Premier League campaign begins.
Speaking to Romanews, the player’s agent has revealed that there has been no contact with AS Roma or any other Italian side and Mustafi is likely to stay put with the Gunners ahead of the 2019/2020 season, he said: “For me it is something new. There is nothing with the Giallorossi or Italian clubs, I have not had contact for now.”
Mustafi has been with the north London giants for the past three years and during this period, he has made 115 appearances for the club across all competitions. Still, he has not been able to win over the fans with the tendency to make regular mistakes and of late, he has been the subject of boos when he has touched the ball during pre-season.
At present, Mustafi appears set to stay with the club for the forthcoming campaign, but things could change, should the club pursue another defensive recruit . Juventus’ Daniele Rugani has been earmarked as the prime target over the past few days and reports have emerged that the club may propose to land him on a two-year loan with the option to buy.
Arsenal have landed three signings in Gabriel Martinelli, William Saliba and Dani Ceballos this summer. The spending spree is expected to continue with the club-record signing of Pepe from Lille and thereafter, the club may place their emphasis on strengthening the backline. Aside from the central defence, the Gunners are also looking to bolster the left-back position and they are currently in talks with Celtic to sign Kieran Tierney.
